Julio Petter Kopseng (37) has been included in the «Norwegian talents»-show on TV2 (Norway’s second biggest TV-network) and appeared as a dancer on Public Television-children’s shows. He is a prolific dancer and model scout who, through a number of years, repeatedly has performed on TV. He profiled himself, often under the name of Julio Gonzales, and ran among other things the talents page www.caribien.no, which is now closed down.
Kopseng was in april 2013, sentenced to four years in prison for the rape of three young women. He’s getting away with two of the years because of the slow investigation from the Norwegian police. Two of the four years was therefore made conditional.
Now it turns out that a number of women have delivered new charges against him after the verdict fell in the District Court. There is now expected a completely new legal process against the 37-year-old.
Comprehensive and serious
Norwegian left-wing newspaper Dagbladet, writes that the Oslo State Attorney’s Office originally prosecuted the new case, in april this year. Kopseng was then charged with raping seven women. Since that time, two more women have come forward and the charges against Kopseng now increased to rape against nine women.
The District Attorney and the prosecutor responsible, Guro Hansson Bull, describes the case as extensive and serious.
-The fact that there are so many victims, is rare. Also, the rapes extend themselves over a long period of time, from 2002 until 2013, Bull told the daily news.
The public prosecutor has asked for jailtime with a minimum time of ten years for Julio Kopseng. He is considered a threat, and a very dangerous criminal and a repeat offender.
Jailed
Kopseng is currently doing time for first rape verdict and the lawyer of the first victims, Trine Rjukan, says they are very relieved that the Prosecutor has asked for an extended detention.
– They are very afraid of him, and fear to meet him on the street, she said.
– He should not go free, he is a danger to the other girls. He will continue to be. This has been a pattern over many years, said Rjukan.
The case against Julio Kopseng starts in Oslo District Court 18. november. It will last right up to 11. December.
The Norwegian media hides the dancers identity and face
Despite the serious charges and the verdict, all of the Norwegian national media outlets have chosen to hide Julio Kopsengs identity by not writing his name or use his photo in their reviews of the case.
Future potential victims can therefore not be able to take precautions if they were to meet the serial rapist in a vulnerable situation after his release.
